Expert says Washington's rhetoric about Huawei wrong, misleading
TANGIER, Morocco, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese expert said here that Washington's rhetoric about Huawei is completely wrong and misleading, adding that the U.S. government seeks to use political measures to go after the Chinese tech giant.
Refuting the rhetoric of Huawei stealing U.S. technologies, Wang Dong, an associate professor at the School of International Studies of Peking University, said at an international IT conference in Tangier that the Chinese company works extremely hard to be "at the top of the technological pyramid."
In May, the U.S. government announced that it would "prohibit transactions posing an unacceptable risk" to the country by declaring a national emergency over what it claimed are technological threats, and announced restrictions on the sale and transfer of U.S. technologies to Huawei.
Wang stressed that Washington has failed to present any solid evidence that Huawei is using its system to damage the security of other countries.
"I admire Huawei a lot for its determination to take up this challenge and I have no doubt that Huawei will make it," he said.
Wang said that Washington wants to maintain hegemony and monopoly of the country's technologies.
"They always say 'America first,' but 'America first' cannot equal to the rest of the world being the last," he added.
