DAMASCUS, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. administration's decision to raise tariffs on Chinese goods targets not just China but also the entire world, said Hanin Nimr, general secretary of the Syrian Communist Party, in a recent interview with Xinhua.
The protectionism practiced by Washington is an economic aggression on China and runs against international law, he said.
Nimr's remarks came against the backdrop of the U.S. economic measures against China, the latest of which was banning China's tech giant Huawei company.
He pointed out that the Huawei crisis hides "aggressive tendencies that aim to affect the global order," however, the world is moving against the U.S. policies.
Europe will be negatively affected by the U.S. policies as well, he said.
While talking about China's counter measures, Nimr said: "Any country that has been under aggression has the right to undertake the policies that preserve its interests."
He believes that China maintains a long-term vision when adopting policies and is not distracted by daily developments.
