SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Top U.S. e-vehicle manufacturer Tesla Inc. has more than 3,000 Model 3 vehicles left in inventory in the United States, automotive news website Electrek quoted sources with the matter as saying Monday.

Tesla is trying to "liquidate every car" in the United States and has made every effort to deliver a record number of vehicles over the past few months, while urging potential buyers to make good use of the federal tax credit on the car before it phases out in 2019, the report said.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet on Saturday that "the $7500 tax credit drops in half in about 48 hours," calling on buyers to act as soon as possible and place orders for the car.

The report said Tesla is expected to deliver some of those vehicles on the last day of the year, but it quoted sources as saying that the U.S. car-maker would find it hard to go through the whole inventory.

Tesla even asked its employees to buy some of those vehicles last week, Electrek said.

Musk has earlier promised to reimburse Tesla buyers for any loss of benefit from the tax credit caused by delayed deliveries of the cars by end of 2018 if their orders were placed before Dec. 20.
